Lucky Doggett

December 31, 2022

Our Lucky came to us one mild September night in 2018. He showed up at the porch door about the time we were going to bed. Susan went out to the porch to check the screen door and there he stood with his nose to it. “There's a puppy out here” she exclaimed. I came out and sure enough I told her, “That's no puppy, it's a full grown pit bull.”

Lucky or “Lucky buddy” as I use to call him and sometimes, “Pooky”, was heartworm positive, scarred and cut up on his back, totally covered in fleas, had distressed kidneys and was wearing a large black spiked leather collar whose metal was rusted. This poor boy we speculate had escaped from being tied up outside all his life.

We nursed him back to health by getting rid of fleas, the heartworms and all the cuts and visible scars. The diminished kidneys remained and were monitored with a special diet.

He became part of our pack with four other dogs and put his stamp on our hearts. We don't think he was ever allowed to be a puppy as he would stomp up and down and fuss if we wouldn't let him out of the kennel to play with our foster puppies.

Lucky found peace and contentment many days by laying out in the yard in the sun, and in his morning and late night walks down the gravel road we live on. We lost him in the wee hours of the morning on New Year's eve 2022.

Rest in peace Pooky, you are missed and will always occupy a small quiet place in our hearts.

Lucky crossed over the rainbow bridge on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

His cremation arrangements were entrusted to Triad Pet Cremation & Cemetery of Greensboro, NC.
